How to publish my book?
I have nearly finished writing a book that I think is actually quite good. I have written loads stories in the past and I’ve had plenty of practice so I know when something is genuinely good. I have shown it to lots of family members and also my english teacher who thinks its really good although none of them have read the finished version yet – I only have four chapters left to write. I really want to try and get it published – I realize how hard this is going to be and how small a chance I have of actually getting it published, especially considering I’m only 15. But I want to try because you have to start somewhere. So how exactly do I go about doing that? I don’t want to send it off to endless publishers and have it discarded endlessly and never read. What should I do?
First finish it, edit it, and polish it up. Then do some heavy research on how to get published and to catch publishers’ attention. While looking up publishers make sure they are looking for what you have. Say you’re manuscript is fantasy but they’re not looking for fantasy, don’t send it in and look somewhere else. Pick at least 2 or 3 publishers out. Submit it to one (read their guidelines first) and wait for a response. If they reject you, go to the next.
I have 90 days to wait for a response on a short story but I’ll have to be patient. They’ll usually send you a response.
Look up young adult publishers and email them to see if they’ll accept a manuscript from a young writer. Also, ask your teacher if she can check for any mistakes.
